Doug’s training refreshed my calling to advance God’s Kingdom. I was really encouraged by the simplicity and truth of it.
I was a salesman trying to sell the Gospel to everyone. Doug helped me to redirect my focus off of my sales scripts back onto the people.
I really think we should have had training of this calibre years earlier. God’s message never changes but the culture is always changing. “God Space” gave me a vision of how to share the gospel in this day and age.
When you read someone’s book there is no place of interactivity. That’s why it was so important to have Doug come and teach us. I could see his emotions, and feel his passion. I could ask him questions and get answers. Doug, keep up the good work of teaching God’s people how to have spiritual conversations naturally.
When I first started reading the book, I was pretty skeptical... just another guy, who wrote just another book... what could be new about evangelism? But, I prayed that the Holy Spirit would open my eyes to something new. By the time I finished reading, I realized that our ministry should have been practicing this approach years ago. Arrogance, pride, agenda driven meetings, over-confidence, God's Space exposed all of this in me.
I am so thankful to God for this “God Space” conference!!! My highlight - “bombarding evangelism”. When I look back I can see how I was throwing gospel bombs on people that I met. I no longer want to do this. I realize that I totally failed to listen to others and to God!
Even though I’ve had a lot of experience in evangelism, I find myself often fearful to share my faith. Now I see that evangelism is something simple, authentic and doable. The Holy Spirit has a key for every heart, so why should I try and control the conversation instead of letting Him lead? I’d like to be more and more led by the Spirit when doing the work of evangelism.
I understand that it was probably not intentional, but somehow Campus Crusade for Christ’s teaching and training left me with the strong sense that I had to always be the final link of the sowing, watering and harvesting chain. This I realized is not true! I can be whatever link in the chain God wants me to be. This is a huge relief. It takes all of the pressure off of me being a failure if I’m not the last link.
P.S. Doug, we are about to start a new church. Costea and Lilia had dinner with you and probably talked about this. We were looking for a good name that would reflect our vision - Love God, Love People, Enjoy Life... Finally, after a couple of months we found the name - "God's Space", and it wasn't my idea. I hope this fact would encourage you a lot. I told you before you came that your visit here in Moldova would produce many changes.

It was great. It seemed to be a far more through the “eyes of Jesus” approach to evangelism than anything else I’ve encountered.
There were a lot of “light bulb” moments- I’m so exited now about evangelizing! As before I was discouraged that it was a waste of time with methods I’d been told or had seen-the ‘turnoffs’ that were talked about exactly. This method of evangelism is the way to go. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Has confirmed what I have felt for a long time - the need to listen with respect to other’s stories, and find common ground. The “I wonder” questions were a new insight to me.
Evangelist is Doug’s title, but there’s more. I think everyone, even those not interested in Evangelism need to hear Doug’s ideas. It is what each Christian should do and live. When you are focused on “getting better at Evagelism” is when you practice “the Evangelism Techniques.” But what about when you’re just living daily life and you are just a Christian and don’t want to focus on evangelizing? You don’t make the effort to share your faith. But what Doug teaches, it becomes a part of who you are. Everyone gets tired and worn out from putting the energy forward to “Share Christ.” Doug’s talk is about being a light and sharing Christ as you live, all of the time, not just when you’re in the mood. He is brought in under the word Evangelism and that’s what he markets himself as doing. But after touring with Doug and attending 10 days of his workshops, (a few 1 hour workshops, several 2 hour workshops and 2 full day workshops) I would call what he does as, “Living and doing Christianity, sharing Christ in your normal daily life.” ..or something along those lines. It is so practical and should be part of every Christian’s lifestyle.
