People all over the globe are starting to discover the exciting world of GPS technology, (GPS stands for (G)lobal (P)ositioning (S)atellite) a worldwide navigation system that uses information received from 24 orbiting satellites (see the picture below) to beam directional information back down to earth. In a similar manner, God has sought to provide His creation with information via numerous sources (His word, His Son, His Holy Spirit, His creation, etc.) to help us navigate through this life in preparation for the next. Unfortunately, many in His creation remain lost because they have yet to meet someone who can effectively guide them into a relationship with their Creator. The great need of our times is not another evangelistic fad or map that will soon be outdated. Historically such methods and tools have been useful for specific times in particular geographic areas but eventually become obsolete or lose effectiveness for one very simple reason. They are usually driven by partial revelation with a disregard to the fullness of God’s revealed wisdom. (For instance sowers who never seek to harvest, or harvesters who never sow.) This would be like buying a GPS device for your car that was only receiving information from 8 or 12 of the 24 directional satellites available. In this ever changing world, Christ followers need to be empowered with all of God’s never changing principles for advancing His Kingdom.

Colossians 4:5 instructs us to be wise (bringing all, not some of God’s wisdom into play) in the way we act toward outsiders, so that we can make the most of our opportunities, to advance God’s Kingdom. Today, upscale golf courses provide carts with GPS systems that allow golfers to know where they are on the course in relationship to the pin. This insures proper club selection. Much like the game of golf, effective evangelism starts where people are in relationship to God, not where we would like for them to be. (See the picture below) Different folks, need different strokes! In the game of golf, club selection is everything! So it is with God’s divine process which leads to faith. There is a time to sow, a time to water, and a time to harvest.
